Live To Eat!

Of all the basic necessities in life, it's food that I rank on top! If someone has seen or known me, they would never dispute my claim.

I am told by my parents that I was born hungry. I cried so much of hunger that I was served buffalo milk soon after my birth as my mother hadn't gain consciousness after delivery, yet.

My dad contributed a lot to the portions that I gobble, today. Out of love and socialistic mindset, he ensured that everyone in the house got an equal portion of the food item, right from the childhood. And I think that led to my stomach lines expanding ensuring I became a glutton as I grew.

Linda Goodman further accentuated my eating habits. Her sun-sign book which are popular in all seasons mentioned that Taureans love to eat and that they would be characters who would attack the fridge for that remaining bit of cake in the cover of darkness. Not entirely sure if it was Linda or it's just me, I did keep attacking the fridge, whether dark or bright, for the goodies.

I was so much into eating even as a kid that I got a special prize during a picnic outing organized at the Air Force Station. While all the kids were made to run, jump, sing and dance, I just won it by moving my elbow joint from the plate to the mouth.

Though I was born into a Tam-Brahm family, I took to eating meat quite early in life. Primarily, due to the mixed culture in the military environment. Thinking that food was my life, I made a serious mistake of imagining that hotel will be the best life for me. Unfortunately, I realized just because I want to eat doesn't mean I have to work in a hotel. But this realization came little late in life. Three years in hotel management and one year as trainee Chef was enough.

In those days, eating out was a great occasion that occurred very rarely. But whenever we did go shopping, I was always anxious and excited about going to the hotel and ordering a dosa. Over the years, I have developed an addiction for eating out. I get very excited. Not that I don't get good food at home, but just that the dish served at hotels has something about it. During the last couple of years, I have also become adventurous. I love experimenting different cuisines and prefer eating local cuisine when I travel outside the city.

Eating is so integral part of my life that it even found a mention on my Wedding reception invite. Savitha and I worked on a caricature invite with blurbs saying Eat to Live against her and Live to Eat against me! Everyone loved it and were amused.

And since I have written about food in my other blog, I thought it was only logical to have a dedicated blog on food to share my experiences. In this blog, I intend to share my thoughts on food and places to eat! Please remember, I am a layman who loves food and not a connoisseur. So you may find that I might judge a place at times for service and other times for value and maybe some other times for service.

Hope you have good time reading this posts and helps make a decision on where to eat? Bon appetite!
